Living On Purpose

What am I here for?  It’s a question that baffles most of us at some point in our lives.

We are each born with a gift/s and it is our responsibility to nurture that and contribute it to the world in a way that honours who we really are. It’s about waking up each and every day and choosing to be on purpose, to have this day matter; to know that every interaction you have with the people (animals and environment), circumstances and events in your life has the potential to lead you to places you could barely imagine possible, or to make a difference in the lives of others that will leave them forever grateful for the contribution you made! Now that’s a powerful antidote to depression … especially in young people!

And it doesn’t mean you even have to know what you’re going to do or what’s going to happen. More and more I am learning to put my plans aside and just get on with whatever is in front of me, which is always so much more than I can do anyway. When I get stuck I just stop and remember the acronym I created … IIDNET … and ask myself the question ‘If I Did Nothing Else Today … then what would I do now?’ Then I just do whatever the answer to that is!

If you don’t already know what it is, then give yourself a reason to believe that you do have a purpose in being here – for you are here on purpose – whatever you may have been told or led to believe, none of us is here by mistake.  While babies are being born in the millions every day, conception is still a miracle and birth still fraught with difficulty at times.

Your life IS your purpose! It was given you as it was all of us to do with what we will and if you haven’t yet found a meaning for it that enlivens you, then just keep going.  Ask the Universe, Creator, God, your Angels, whatever it is that connects you to the Source of your being, to show you.  And then get out of the way and let the river flow!

Just let go, just keep going, just put one foot in front of the other, and allow the path to unfold before you.  The path is made by the walking … not by waiting for it to magically appear!  No doubt there will be side tracks and wrong turns along the way but that’s all part of the journey anyway.

And if you’re a parent, then of course part of your purpose is to do the best job you can with and for your children. However … that doesn’t mean that you must do everything for, or give everything to, them!  Our children and young people thrive on responsibility.  Allow them to give back, to take their place in the world and to build the sense of personal pride that is their right!

When you begin each day on purpose you will find that before too long you will have discovered your purpose; for there may be many paths you will walk in this lifetime and perhaps it is only at the end of a life lived rich and fulfilling that the tapestry you have woven over time will reveal itself to you.
